    Avigon

    (b.i.) The Great Schism was a result of (b.ii)Philip IV persuading the french cardinals to select a pope of his liking. This then resulted in pope moving to Avigon.

    Two Popes

    (b.i)(b.ii) Pope Gregory XI died in rome trying to bring it back o rome, after his death the cardinal council chose (b.ii.) Pope Urban VI for pope. However his arrogant peronality forced the council to elect another pope (b.ii.) Clement VII, they were fighing causeing the Church to divide or great schism.

    Three Popes

    Council of Constance attempteted to end schism by electing one pope. However this resulted in now three popes.
  • Jan 1, 1417

    Martin V

    (b.iii.) The Council then forced all three popes to resign and resultingly the election of Martin V ending the Great Schism.
