Great Depression and dust bowl

  • The drought

    A very bad drought hit the Midwest. The crops die off, dust from the land spreads and blows around.
  • Roosevelt

    Roosevelt take office. He makes the banking act this would help with the industry.
  • Dust Storms

    The dust storms become bigger and worse. They spread the worst drought ever. It was a problem in almost 27 states.
  • The Relief Force

    The government makes a relief force trying to help the people suffering. They try to distribute food and water to those most in need.
  • A National Menace

    The Menace being the soil. The government begins to come up with new ideas to stop the dust bowl.
  • Soil Conservation Practices

    The idea was the farmers would try to help the soil. The problem it was that the soil was to dry and this was supposed to help keep the soil in one place.
  • Undesirable

    The police force in Arizona patrols the borders of the state. This was to keep the "undesirables" out. The city them sues.
  • Shelterbelt Project

    This was a project to plant trees. This would help hold the soil down. The dust bowl was detrimental and America was desperate.
  • The Benefits

    The planting of the trees and other methods helped. Almost 65% of the soil blowing had been reduced.
  • The Rain

    The rain finally comes. This brings an end to the drought. This brought back the plants
