Grade 3- Introducing Reconciliation

  • Mole's Hill by Lois Ehlert

Read the children's book to the class "Mole's Hill" by Lois Ehlert. Ask questions to get the students introduced to/thinking about reconciliation. For example: 1) Was it fair that Mole had to move her hill? 2) How do you think that made Mole feel? 3) Has anything unfair ever happened to you? How did you solve this?
  • Exploratory News Activity

Ipad's will be set up in stations around the room with a news broadcast related to reconciliation. Students will listen to the articles in group, and bring along sticky notes. With the sticky notes, they can write a question or questions they have, something they connected to, and something they want to learn more about. Students will choose one news report that they really resonated with and be put into groups for a future lesson. The activity will end with a large group discussion.

With a different colour sticky note, they will try and find some of the answers to the questions from last class, and stick them overtop of the other sticky notes. The activity will end with a large group discussion.
