Dred Scott v. Sandford
Dred Scott v. Sandford was a turning point for former slaves in a case that argued that if a slave moved to a free state if they were legitimate a free person. It went to Missouri court and lost and then took it to federal court and won his freedom. -
The 13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment essentially abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, and there would be punishment for those who would break it. -
The 14th Amendment
Everyone born in the United States of America is a legal citizen. -
The 15th Amendment
Every citizen had the legal right to vote and cannot be denied or abridged by the United States. -
Plessy v. Ferguson
When the US Supreme Court made the decision to uphold the segregation laws as long as everything between the races were equal. -
The 19th Amendment
Prohibits voting based on sex. -
White Primaries
White primaries were primary elections held in the Southern United States in which only white voters were permitted to participate. -

Established that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. -
Affirmative Action
Policy of favoring individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously. -
The 24th Amendment
Cannot give a poll tax or any other tax whilst voting, -

Civil Rights Act of 1964
Prohibits discrimination by race, sex, color, religion, and national origin in the workplace. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Prohibits racial discrimination in voting. -
Reed v. Reed
Administrators of estates cannot be named in a way that discriminates between sexes. -
Equal Rights Amendment
Equal right of all citizens based on sex. -
Regents of the University of California v. Bakke
Upheld affirmative action and allowed race to be a factor in college admission. -
Bowers v. Hardwick
A case in a law in Georgia where people would be criminalized for having sex between the same sexes. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
Prohibits discrimination to people based on disabilities. -
Lawrence v. Texas
Prohibiting private homosexual activity between consensual adults is unconstitutional. -
Obergefell v. Hodges
Same sex marriage is legal and cannot be prohibited.
