Touchdown!!
After four long months at sea, they finally reached the New World! The landed in Virginia, calling their new home Jamestown. -
Settling in America
As word reached back to England that the settlers were surviving, more ships were sent out west. The Pilgrims were sent over on the Mayflower, and in 1620 they landed at Plymouth Rock in what is now Massachusets! -
After the War...
After the American Revolution and the creation of the United States of America, we decided that the land we had presently wasn't enough. In 1786, white settlers forced the Cherokee to give up a large tract of land on the Tennessee River. This "treaty" was known as the Treaty of Hard Labor, and from here on, white settlers kept pushing west. -
Lousiana Purchase
Napoleon needed money, we wanted the land, so in 1803 the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals was made, and the United States nearly doubled in size as a result. -
Cherokee Indian Removal
After many long years of encroachment into Native territory, Andrew Jackson decided he was tried of the slow picking away at their land, and decided to remove the Native Cherokee entirely to new lands that he deemed suitable for them to live in. In 1830, Jackson passes the Indian Removal Act, and by 1838, the Cherokee were forcibly removed from their homes. -
Expansion into Mexico
Who shot first? The chicken or the egg, I mean, Mexico or the United States? In a border skirmish, the United States claimed that Mexico attacked on US land, and from there we were thrust into war with Mexico. After all the dust settled, America was now the proud owner of Texas, defined by the Rio Grande, and California. -
Mormifest Destiny
Get it? Because Manifest Destiny and the Mormons?? Anyways, Manifest Destiny was a term used by American settlers to justify their expansion west, and the Church of the Latter-day Saints, or the Mormons, were essential to the colonization of the west. When the Mormons entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, they immediately began laying out plans for their city. Some historians even argue that Mormonism was created to justify westward expansion, but that's a story for another day... -
There's Gold in These Them Hills!
We found Gold! After the discovery of gold in Sutter's Mill in 1848, the Gold Rush was flung into effect. People moved out to California in droves, all for the hope of striking it rich! -
California is a State Now!
California: come for the gold rush and stay for the beaches/your family is in too much debt to move back because you didn't strike it rich and now you're indebted to the company store for more money than you're worth. We claimed statehood in 1850 and have been killing the game ever since.
