The Reichstag Fire
The Reichstag (German parliament) building is burnt down. The Nazi Party arrest Van der Lubbe, a known member of the Communist Party. Goebbels uses the opportunity to denounce the effects of the Communists on Germany through a mass media campaign. -
March Elections
The Nazis gain the majority of seats in the Reichstag, giving them the power to pass through controversial laws. -
Dachau Concentration Camp
The first concentration camp is set up in Dachau by the head of the SS, Himmler. -
The Enabling Act
The Enabling Act is passed through the Reichstag. This gives Hitler enormous legislative powers. -
Boycott of Jewish Businesses
The Nazi Party ordered an official 1 day boycott of Jewish businesses. -
Creation of the Gestapo
The Gestapo is created by Hermann Goering. -
German Workers Front
Trade unions were banned on the 2nd June. The German Workers Front was its unified and nationalised successor, created by the Nazi Party. -
Only the Nazis!
All other political parties are banned in Germany. -
Hitler withdraws from the League of Nations
Hitler severs ties with the League of Nations, effectively isolating Germany from the rest of the world and increasing international tension. -
Night of the Long Knives
Hitler wipes out the leadership of the SA, as well as several other political enemies in several nights of infamous action. -
Hindenburg's Death
President Hindenburg passes away. Hitler declares himself President and Chancellor of Germany.
