The Reichstag (German parliament) building is burnt down. The Nazi Party arrest Van der Lubbe, a known member of the Communist Party. Goebbels uses the opportunity to denounce the effects of the Communists on Germany through a mass media campaign.

The first concentration camp is set up in Dachau by the head of the SS, Himmler.

Trade unions were banned on the 2nd June. The German Workers Front was its unified and nationalised successor, created by the Nazi Party.

All other political parties are banned in Germany.
