In 1619 the British brought the first slaves to america. In a ship called the white lion it held 20 slaves. The brought them to Jamestown and they stole the slaves from a African portuguese ship. -
Declaration of Independence
The declaration was a letter to separate the US from the British. The idea was that god made all men equal. The point of the government is to protect those rights. And if a government tries to withhold these rights, the people are free to revolt and to set up a new government. -

Created in 1787 the constitution was a letter that gave people rights. It created government laws and fundamental laws. It also introduced the idea of amendments. -
louisiana purchase
Created in 1803 the louisiana purchase was a deal the America and france worked together for land. It was 828000 sq miles large. And it took up 18 diffrent states. -
War of 1812
Fought in 1812 it lasted 3 years. Fought between the US and Britain about the violations of maritime rights. It ended with the exchange of ratifications of the Treaty of Ghent. -
Fugitive slave act
The law was created in 1850. The law was stated the slaves needed to be returned to there owners. Even if in a free state they were hunted down. The act also made the federal government responsible for finding, returning, and trying escaped slaves -
Southern states leave
the secession of Southern States left in 1861. It led to the establishment of the Confederacy and ultimately the Civil War. It was the most serious secession movement in the United States and was defeated. -
Start of civil war
In 1861 free states and slave states were at war with each other. Having America be split one side the union and other Confederates. The start of the war had to do with the battle at fort sumter then the real fighting began. -
Lincoln speech
Lincoln gave his speech in 1863. In it, he said that the principles of human equality contained in the Declaration of Independence and connected the sacrifices of the Civil War. And we should come together. -
End of war
The civil war came to an end in 1865. The final battle of the Civil War takes place at Palmito Ranch, Texas. It is a Confederate victory. Then Robert E lee surrendered and the union won. -
Abolishment
The abolishment of slavery happened right after the war in 1865. With congress passing that slaves should not be slaves. But in the next decades many black people have got harsh rasim.
