Intro of slavery to the U.S
The first time ever slavery was in north america was when 20 enslaved Africans were brought to the british colonies in 1619 at Jamestown, Virginia. Slavery in the United States was the legal institution of human chattel slavery, comprising the enslavement primarily of Africans and African Americans, that existed in the United States of America from its founding in 1776 until the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of independence is one of the most important documents in history. It declared that the 13 colonies were free. It stated the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That is the base of America’s independence. The declaration of independence was approved by the continental congress on 7/4/1776. The declaration helped to reach aid from france, a long time enemy of britain. -
Abolitionist movement
The abolitionist movement was a movement to end the practice of slavery in the United States. The first leaders of the campaign, which took place from about 1830 to 1870, mimicked some of the same moves British abolitionists had used to end slavery in Great Britain in the 1830s. -
Fugitive Slave act
The Fugitive Slave Acts was a pair of laws that allowed for the capture and return of runaway enslaved people within the territory of the United States. So if you ran away and got out of the u.s then you would be free. The Fugitive Slave Acts were among the most controversial laws of the early 19th century. -
Beginning and ending of the civil war
It all started from Confederates bombarding Union soldiers at fort sumter in 1861. It ended from Confederates surrendering to the unions in spring 1865. People think the war started from free and enslaved states having different opinions. The war was fought in thousands of different places. There was over 10,500 military engagements. -
Battles of Fort Henry and Fort Donelson in Tennessee
The Battle of Fort Henry on February 6, 1862, was the first big leap of Union victory in the American Civil War. After a crazy naval bombardment, Confederate Brigadier General Lloyd Tilghman secretly evacuated the bulk of his troops to nearby Fort Donelson before surrendering to Union forces. -
The Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was the first battle of the war to take place on Northern soil in fact It was the the bloodiest day in the American Civil War, with a total of over 23,000 casualties including more than 4,800 killed. (In fact, more Americans were killed on this day than on any other day in American military history) -
Southern States secede // North’s response
Southern states seceded after Lincoln's election, because they felt that his election showed they had no power in the USA and that the North would soon destroy their way of life that revolved around slavery. Northerners responded that Southerners simply did not want to live by the rules of democracy. They complained that Southerners were not willing to live with the election results. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle of Gettysburg was a very large battle in fact, it was the largest battle ever fought in north america. The battle was pretty long it lasted for 3 days straight. Pickett's charge was a attack led by the Union and that ended the battle with a win for the union. Confederate troops suffered 28,000 losses, while Union not far behind loss 25,000 troops. -
Delivering of speech
Abraham Lincoln was one of the people asked to deliver a speech on that day. Edward Everett was another one. Everett spoke for 2 hours while lincoln spoke for 2 minutes. Everett said that he wish that he could put the empowering things he said in only 2 minutes just like lincoln. This speech has become one of the most powerful speeches in the english language.
