He was born in Schonhausen, to a wealthy family that owned an estate west of Berlin. Bismarck was well educated and became fluent in English, French, Italian, Polish, and Russian. -

King Wilhelm I made Bismarck minister president and foreign minister to encourage the Prussian landtug to approve an increase in military spending. Part of Bismarcks closing statement on the matter was that Prussia should save its strength for a favorable moment. -

King William I made Bismarck prime minister two years after William was crowned. He did this to help deal with the Diet refused to finance the army. -

William II becomes Kaiser
One of his first major mistakes was removing Bismarck from office in 1890. Being the emperor in power during the time he was the person who started World War 1 in 1914. -
Bismarck resigns
Bismarck was 75 years old when he resigned at the insistence of William 2. He was succeeded as chancellor of Germany by Leo von Caprivi.
