    Savannah was Georgia Capital since 1733 to 1786.

    University of Georgia
    The University of Georgia was created by Abraham Baldwin in 1785. The University was created based on the belief that everyone, despite their economic stance, deserved an education with additional help of the government. UGA was 1st school open to lower income student and was the first to open in the United States.

    According to New Georgia Encyclopedia, on Jan. 26 1786 the legislature determined that Augusta would become the the new capital of Georgia. 2

    During the 1780s, pastors were going around trying to summon people to particpate in religious ceremonies outdoors. These ceremonies were called Tent Revival and Camp Meeting. During all of this, africans, slaves, established their first independent chuurch.

    In 1793, while visiting a friend, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. It was a system of roller, teeth andn brushes that cleaned cotton of its seeds. This invention changed the hhistory of the united states and the southern half of the nation.

    Louisville beacame the capital of GA in 1796. It was named after King Louis XVI because he helped during the American Revolution. It was now located closer to the new center of GA. However, malaria sooon spread and they removed the capital towards another city. 3

    After malaria spread across Augusta, they moved it to Milledgeville. 4

    Georgia needed a faster transportation for it to be al=ble to sell all the cotton it was growing. Therefore, in 1834 the work began on the railroads and by 1860 there was more than 1,200 miles of rails in Georgia.

    Capital: Atlanta
    The city of Atlanta was created around the railroad. The railroad ended at a town called Terminus. Eventually more railroads met there, leading to the town's growth. The Terminus' name was changed to Marthaville in 1843, then to Atlanta after being laughed at for the name of Marthaville. The name is the feminie version of Atlantic. 5 and last capital
