Hernando De Soto
Hernando de Soto was a spanish explorer and conquistador.He expeditied deep into the modern-day U.S.(Flordia, Georgia, Mississippi,Alabama,and most likely Arkansa.)He was the first European documented to cross the Mississppi River and later in 1542 died on the banks of the Mississippi River. -
Charter of 1732
The first twenty years of Georgia was reffered to as Trustee Georgia.They reffered to it that way because at the time the colony was being governed by a Board of Trustees. -
Oglethorpe Arrives
Oglethorpe was a British soldier,member of parliment,a philathropist and founder of the colony of Georgia.He resettled Britian's worthy poor in the new world.He was mainly focusing on those who were in debtor's prison. -
Salzburgers Arrives
The arrival of the Salzburgers heralded the beginning of one of the most culturally distinctive communities.The catholic Archbishopof Salzburg expelled German Protestants from present-day Austria in 1731 so King George offered them refuge in the new colony.Three hundred Salzburgers follwed Pastor Johann Martin Bolzius to the new world where they were greeted and then they travelled twenty-five miles upriver and founded the town of Ebenezer in what is now Effingham County. -
Highland Scots Arrive
They sailed her form Inverness,Scotland aboard the Prince of Whales and disembarked on the northern bank of the Altamha River.They were among the finest soldiers they were recruited by General James Oglethorpe to provide a buffer colony.They built a fort to replace Fort George which had been abandoned. -

American Revolution
The American Revolution was a colonial revolt where the American Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies won independence.The American colonial society argued the position of"no taxation without representation."Protests started to escalated to the Boston Massacre in 1770,burning of the Gaspee in Rhode Island in 1772,and the Boston Tea Party in December 1773 which caused other colonies to rally behind Massachusetts,but some wanted out of it and others wanted to aligned to the crown(Loyalists or Tories. -
Battle of Kettle Creek
It was a major encounter in the back country of Georgia during the American Revolutionary War which was fought in Wilkes County about 8 miles from present-day Washington,Georgia.The militia forces of Patriots defeated and scattered a Loyalist militia force that was on the way to British-controlled Augusta they then surprised the Patriots in the Battle of Brier Creek.In Georgia's back country would not come fully under control until after 1780 Siege of Charlston broke their forces in the south. -
Constituional Convention
It took place in the old Pennsylvania State House also known as (Independence Hall because of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence eleven years before).It was intended to revise the league of states and first system of government. They finally unanimously ratified by the Original Thirteen States by 1781. -
Georgia Ratifies Constitution
They elected 6 delegates to the Constitutional Convection in the summer of 1787.George Washington had the authority to revise Articles of Confederation,but 4 fractious months and grudging compromise 55 delegates produced an entirely new system of governing.The small states feared being swallowed by the larger ones they objected saying we were missing a Bill of Rights they called a special convection they unanimously voted to ratify it,but the fourth state didn't do so until January 2,1788. -
Austin Dabney
He was a slave who became a private in Georgia militia and was the only African-American to be granted land by the state of Georgia(50 acres). He was reconized for his bravery and service in Revolutionary War. Also he was one of few to receive a federal military pension.
