The team came originally from Boston(1871 - 1952), then in 1953 they were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and finally in 1966 they were in Atlanta Georgia because a man named Ivan Allen jr. bought them.They were important to Georgia because they brought in a lot of money that helped our economy, more jobs, more people, and more recognition to Atlanta Georgia. -
William B. Hartsfield
He Served as mayor longer than any other mayor. He was important to Georgia because in his time in office the population by ten times. -
Benjamin Mays
He was a civil rights leader and he was the president to the Morehouse college. He became a part of the board of education and he was the first African American to do that. -
John Lewis
He was the first in the Student Non-Violence Coordinating Committee(SNCC). He was active in the civil rights in the south. He served as a representative in the house of representatives. -
Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter
Hamilton Holmes and Charlene Hunter were one of the first African Americans to be admitted to a university that was segregated but they had a really hard time at first. They got admitted because Charlayne Hunter filed a civil suit and at trail the judge stated a ruling that they would have already been accepted if it weren't for their race and color. That is when UGA let them in the university. -

The Atlanta Hawks weren't always in Atlanta Georgia. A man name Carl sanders brought them here and they were important to Georgia because they helped to our economy, added more jobs, more people, and more recognition to Atlanta Georgia. -
Herman Talmadge
He was the governor of Georgia and he was elected twice. He did not want to desegregate schools.He was also elect to U.S senate. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This was a court case where it was decided that separate schools for whites and blacks is unconstitutional. They overturned the ruling in the Plessy v. Ferguson that said separate but equal is constitutional. -
1956 State Flag
After the Brown v. Board of Education ruling saying separate but equal is no longer legal. The governor signed the legislation to change to flag. they did this to protest against the desegregation in schools. -
Sibley Commission
Sibley commission was public hearings of how the people of Georgia felt about schools being desegregated, and most people didn't want them to be. Georgia said that the districts could chose to have the schools that way or not. This caused many private schools. -
Student Non-Violet Coordinating Committee
They organised many sit-ins or boycotts that would not serve blacks and led protest. This group started because many of the early sit-ins were effective. -
The Albany Movement
The Student Non-Violence Coordinating Committee (SNCC) started the Albany Movement. Despite having Martin Luther King Jr. presences, the Albany Movement failed. Many people were jailed and the police used peaceful tactics to avoid negative publicity. -
Ivan Allen Jr.
He brought the Braves to Atlanta Georgia. he was a governor of Georgia. He also spoke in favor of the Civil Rights. -
March on Washington
Martin Luther King Jr. said the "I Have A Dream" speech on the march. -

Lester Maddox
Lester Maddox was a Governor in Georgia. He promoted slavery and he found it difficult to not resist the Civil Rights Act.
However he later gave blacks important jobs. -
Martin Luther King Jr.
He was born in Atlanta Georgia and he was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement.He has done many things over his life time to try to get to his goal of all American being treated the same and he did them in a non violent way. Such as, the "I Have A Dream" speech when millions of people march on Washington, the Led Montgomery Bus Boycott, and he was at the Albany Movement. -
