    Birth

    Genghis Khan was born in Mongolia in 1155. The name given to him at birth was Temujin.
  • Jan 1, 1182

    Marriage

    In 1182, when he was only 16, Khan married Borte, the woman he was arranged to marry since before his father's death when he was 9.
  • Jan 1, 1206

    Supreme Ruler

    In 1206, Genghis Khan's people made him their supreme ruler and he began the Mongolian Empire. The picture shows the size of the Mongolian Empire at its height.

    Mogolian Empire

    Genghis Khan founded the Mongolian Empire in 1206. After his death, the empire continued to grow until 1368.
  • Jan 1, 1207

    Xi Xia

    In 1207, Khan led his armies to the kingdom of Xi Xia and after two years, forced it to surrender.
  • Jan 1, 1211

    China

    In 1211, Khan's army attacked the Jin Dynasty in northern China because of its rice fields and wealth. This campaign lasted for nearly 20 years.
  • Jan 1, 1219

    Khwarizm Dynasty

    The leader of the Khwarizm Dynasty, Shah Muhammad, killed a Mongol diplomat. After this happened, Khan set up a plan to attack this dynasty and in 1221 Shah Muhammad and his son were killed, which brought the dynasty to and end.
  • Aug 18, 1227

    Death

    On August 18, 1227 Genghis Khan died after never fully recovering from his internal injuries from getting thrown off a horse.
