  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress meet shortly after the Revolution began. 12 of the 13 original colonies sent delegates to debate things such as laws, the war and how to handle their people. Was the first step to actually forming a government and it represented a democracy.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The second Continental Congress met in the summer of 1775. Again over 56 delegates from 12 colonies came together. their main effort was the war. They created and signed the Olive Branch petition requesting peace with the British. They also formed and supported the Continental Army to fight against the British. Was the first steps to Independence and was a good example of the government we have to today.

    Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet Common Sense to try and persuade the nation into Independence. The pamphlet lead most citizens and leaders into thinking that Independence was a good idea. Also was a major influence in why they wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence.

    A document declaring the United States independent from the British Monarchs. When 56 members of the Second Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence it finally made our nation an Independent Nation and the Second Continental Congress became our true form of government for the begging of the U.S.A.

    The Articles of Confederation was the US's first constitution. Under it, the states remained free and independent. they only went to the Federal government as a last resort.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    Was a treaty between the United States and the British that ended the revolutionary war. This also was a sign of the Americans full Independence and it became a free nation.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Danial Shay and other Massachusetts farmers rebelled against the newly Independent United States because of the enforcement of High taxes. it lasted nearly a year and a half and was met with US military force. Was the first true internal conflict that the US had to face and overcome.
  • Constitutional Convention

    At first it was a convention to fix problems they had within their existing Government but then became a conv3ention to replace and create a new government from scratch. This is why and when the constitution was created and signed by the 56 delegates.

    A series of Letters written by federalists to try and persuade people into agreeing with the Constitiution and to get 9 out of the 13 colonies to ratify it which would make it official for the United States.
  • Ratification of the Constitution

    Ratification of the Constitution
    the Constitution was created at the Constitution Convention and had to be ratified by 9 of the 13 states. New Hampshire was the 9th state to ratify the Constitutions making it the law of the land. this is important because we still run our government based on the Constitution.
  • Bill of Rights

    The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments that were added on to the Constitution. They were created in 1789 and ratified in 1791. Was important because it gave right to the people and to states. Also brought the nation together and strengthened the Constitution
