    • quinine comes from the bark of the cinchona tree, it controls fever, relives muscle spasm especially GI pain Belladonna and atropine are made from the poisonous nightshade plant and help relieve muscle spasm especially GI pain.
    • morphine is made from opium poppy and is used for treating sever pain. It is addicting and only used if nothing else works.

    • the physicians were priests they learned how to treat disease and heal fractures, and learned the art of bloodletting with leeches.

    The Chinese were the first to use acupuncture, they used stone tools. This later because the advanced practice of modern day accupuncture

    They were the first to study the cause of disease and to determine that illnesses may have natural instead of spiritual causes. They were not allowed to dissect humans because of religious reasons. The oath of Hippocrates is the basis for todays medical ethnics.

    Ancient romans

    Romans learned from the Greeks that a sanitation system was very important. They brought clean water in to their city by waterways, built sewers to carry off waste, and built public baths with filtering systems.

    Romans sent medical equipment and physicians with eir armies to care for hurt soldiers. This was the beginning of hospitals, public buildings for the sick to be healed were built.

    Epidemics caused may deaths during this period, bubonic plague alone killed 60 million people.There are many other uncontrolled diseases and today these illnesses are not always life threatening because of vaccines and medications.
