    Meeting of the Estates Generals

    King Louis called a meeting with the 3 estates due to the fact that the government of France was in bad financial trouble. When the voting came up the first and second estate overpowered the third estate. This left the third estate unhappy because they still were being taken advantage of and still had to pay the taxes. This lead to the tennis court oath.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    The Bastille was a prison, which became known to symbolize monarchy. The crowd of people sick of the rule taking advantage of them charged into the prison and took over control of it. They even went far enough to kill the governor and flash his head they had cut off around the streets.
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man & Citizen is published

    The Declaration of the Rights of Man & Citizen is published
    French representatives gathered and published a declaration. This document gives the French people their rights just like the American Constitution.
  • Women's March on Versailles

    Women's March on Versailles
    Many women began to form a group at a marketplace location. The march started over unfair bread prices, when they continued more and more people joined creating a large mob. A few women talked to the King after walking for hours in the ran and got the bread they wanted. Many others though, stayed back to protest and this ended in deaths of the palaces guards.

    French declared the war trying to defend their new revolution, this did not end well. The French army was weak and disheveled and Austria's power overwhelmed them.

    The Execution of King Louis
    King Louis was put in the guillotine after being being convicted. He was then killed by the guillotine and months later so was Marie Antoinette.

    Soon after the Civil War was spreading around other countries the violence began. Executions began in masses in the city of Paris for the public to watch. Around 300,000 people were arrested and around 17,000 were executed.

    Execution of Marie Antoinette
    After she lost the custody of her young son, the was convicted of treason and brought to the guillotine. When she was killed she was young and only 37.

    Execution of Robespierre
    Robespierre heard word spreading that he was now known as an outlaw, so he tried to end things by shooting himself. This didn't work so troops took him to the public streets and beheaded him. After this many more of his supporters were also killed.

    Napoleon's Coup d'etat
    People like to call this event the "end" of the French revolution. Napoleon took the power of the French government, 5 years after this he appointed himself emperor.
