It was when a state prison on the East side of Paris, known as the Bastille, was attacked by a mob because of the symbol of the monarchys dictatorial rule that the prison had become. The March on Versailles was when a crowd of women demanding bread for their families gathered other discontented Parisians, including some men, and marched toward Versailles, soaking wet from rain. It was the last time the King saw Versailles.
