Formation of Constitutional Monarchy
King Louis XVI was forced by the National Constituent Assembly to accept the French Constitution. ( Absolute monarchy turned into constitutional monarchy) -
Overthrow of the Monarchy - France a Republic
The National Convention (a single chamber assembly) that was just newly settled had put an end to the monarchy and announced France as a republic. -
Execution of King Louis XVI
King Louis XVI was condemned guilty and put to death because of high treason. -
Reign of Terror Begins
Factors like chaos throughout the country, situation with France's military, and the Law of Suspects development lead to the Reign of Terror. The development allowed Robespierre (the president of the National Convention) to arrest and execute those who stood against the revolution. -
Execution of Marie Antoinette
Marie was condemned guilty of committing high treason, plotting with foreign powers, and the reduction of the state funds. All 3 charges lead to a death penalty. -
Reign of Terror Ends
Public support of the Committee of Public Safety decreased, because of the excessive bloody and cruel actions that were taken during the revolution. Robespierre and his supporters were arrested and then executed, ending the Reign of Terror.
