The Estates-General, Was The French Ligeslative Assembly, Under The Old Regime. It Had A Seperate Assembly For Each Of The Three Estates, Which Was Called And Dismissed By The King. King Loui XVI Called The Estates Into Session, For The First Time Since 1614 In Order To Raise Taxes. -
Tennis Court Oath
The Tennis Court Oath Came About As A Result Of The Fact That The Were Locked Out Of The Estates-General Meeting. The Third Estate Held A Meeting On A Nearby Tennis Court To Consider Economic Reform. The Oath Stated: That The Sovereingty Of The People, Did Not Belong To The King, But To The Poeple Themselves.
