Louis XVI was crowned King of France in 1774. It was after his grandfather's death, Louis XV. He also married Marie-Antoinette from Austria. -

The American Revolution began in 1775. France sent some of their troops to help America in war. Which later on became one of the reasons why France went bankrupt. The American Revolution was also one of the causes of the French Revolution. -

The calling of the Estates General happened in 1789. The king ordered the meeting because he wanted permission to make tax reforms to the clergy and nobility. Only for the 3rd estate to leave upset because of unfair representation. -

The formation of the Nation Assembly happened on June 13, 1789. The 3rd Estate rebelled against the King and they created their own government body. The representatives of the assembly wanted to fix the financial problems that was happening in France. -

The Tennis Court Oath happened on June 20, 1789. The 3rd Estate joined together to talk about their government and the changes they wanted to make to it. They all made an agreement to stay assembled until there was an established constitution made. -
Attack on Bastille
The attack on Bastille happened on July 14, 1789. An angry group of Parisians marched on Bastille and demolished and wrecked it. This event put the French Revolution to a start. -
French Women Force Louis XVI to Leave Versailles
The Women of France force Louis XVI to leave Versailles on October 5, 1789. This event is also known as the Women’s March on Versailles. They made a violent confrontation at the Palace of Versailles and triumphantly got the King to leave. -
Declaration of War
On April 20, 1792 the national assembly declared war against Austria. The Austrian alliance were under the leadership of Charles William Ferdinand. France wanted to protect the revolution and give peace and unify the country. -
Louis XVI is executed
Louis XVI was executed on January 21, 1793. He was executed by a guillotine. This was a major event that happened in the Revolution. -
The Reign of Terror
The Committee of Public Safety began started this time period. It was all under the leadership of Maximillian de Robespierre. Around 56,000 people were killed. -
The National Convention
The National Convention formed on September 21, 1793. They set aside the Constitution and abolished the monarchy. They also made France a republic. -
The Thermidor Reaction
The Thermidor reaction happened on July 27, 1794. Maximillian Robespierre was denounced by members of the national convention as a tyrant. He was beheaded the next day. -
The Directory is Formed
The upper-middle class (Bourgeoisie) held the power in the directory. They were not able to solve France’s food shortages and their financial crisis. They did employ a good general who goes by the name of Napoleon. -
Napoleon Takes Power
Napoleon took power in the year 1799. He was one of the world’s best military generals. The directory didn’t have control over the political situation so napoleon took over. -
Napoleon Invades Russia
Napoleon was furious that Russia did not follow the Continental System. The Russians retreated while Napoleon continued to follow long into the winter. This event was one of Napoleons biggest mistakes. -
Napoleons Defeat at Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo happened on June 18, 1815. This event was Napoleon’s last stand. He was defeated and was exiled to St. Helena.
