King calls all estates together to address the financial problems of the country. This is th efirst time they have been called together since 1614 or 175 years! -
Third Estate refuses to abide by kings one vote for each estate order.
Third Estate procoamis themselves the National Assembly and states they have the right to make laws for France. King Louis responds by locking them out of the meeting place using his guards to prevent their entry unless they abide by the old rules. -
Tennis Court Oath
The members of the Third Estate meet at the indoor tennis court of Versailles and pledge not to leave unitl they have written a constitution for the nation they represent. The king eventually concedes to their demands. -
Women of Paris March on Versailles
7000 Women of Paris march to the palace carryinig weapons and demand bread from King Louis....King agrees to return with his family along with them to Paris to live in his Tuileries Palace. -
Brunswick Manifesto
Austira and Prussia warn that if the Royal Family is hurt there would be trouble. This angers the revolutionaries as the enemy troops begin to mount on the borders and threaten to march on Paris. -
French forces defeat the Austrian and Prussian invaders
Austria attempts to restore the monarchy though force. Although initially successful in their military attack, they are defeated. A great feeling of relief and exhuberance takes hold for the revolutionaries of Paris at the victory over foreign armies.
