Estates General meeting at Versailles
On May 5 of 1789, Luis put off dealing with the emergency of cutting expenses until France faced bankruptcy. When he tried to tax aristocrats, the second estate forced him to call a meeting of the estates general. -
Tennis Court Oath is taken by Third Estate
On june 17 of 1789, the Third Estate voted to establish the National Assembly. 3 days later, they became locked out of their meeting room and found a door that lead to a tennis court. That's where they made their new constitution and called it the tennis court oath. -
Storming of the Bastille
Louis tried to make peace with the third estate by ordering the nobles and the clergy to join them in the National Assembly. People gathered weapons in order to defend Paris against the king's foreign troops. On july 14 of 1789, a mob tried to get gunpowder from the Paris prison called Bastille. Bastille eventually fell into control of the citizens. -
Louis XVI is taken prisoner
On August 13 of 1789, Louis was arrested and sent to the ancient temple in Paris. -
Writing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen
On August 27 of 1789, the National Assembly made a statement of revolutionary ideals known as the declaration of the rights of man. This document stated that men are born and remain free and equal in rights. -

In November of 1795, the directory was a commitee which governed france when it replaced the commitee of public safety.
