Estates General meet at Versailles for the first time in 100 years.
There was a shortage of money, so the king Louis XVI wanted to raise taxes to makeup and recover that money. This was a last resort as technically he would't be an absolute ruler anymore. This angered the 3rd estate, the ones who would be taxed, of course. -
3rd Estate becomes the National Assembly
The 3rd estate is fed p and decides to become their own government. They became the National Assembly, later the National Constituent Assembly, and became the effective government of France. -

The Great Fear
The 3rd estate is paranoid and over reacts to anything that could be the higher estates going against them. For example when they thought that the nobles were going to kill them, they killed the nobles first, but the rumor was fake, only a rumor. -
The Storming of Bastille
Bastille was a fortress from the 10 years war, and represented the might of the king. By the time of the revolution, it was mostly used as a prison. The citizens of Paris, mostly craftsmen and 3rd estate members, stormed the fortress and about 104 people died. The person in charge and 3 of his men were killed by the crowd. -
Declaration of the right if man
The national assembly believe that the rights of man being ignored is the main or sole reason that all this is happening, so they make a document that lists all the natural and undeniable rights of man such as the definition of liberty. This shows that the national assembly recognizes them to show that they are better than the previous government. -
Republic
France declares itself a republic and denounces being a monarchy. -
Louis XVI is executed
After being captured the former king is publicly executed after the new government is formed. -
French armies are victorious.
On all fronts France is Victorious against other European countries. -
2nd Coalition.
Austria, England, and Russia form the 2nd coalition against France. -
Napoleon takes over the Directory and seizes power
Napoleon takes over the newly formed government for whom he fought for. This leads to him becoming emperor, destroying France's democracy, and much bloodshed and the course of history changing through the Napoleonic Wars.
