Merchants, Factory Owners, and Bankers started panicking because the economy was in decline during this time. This was in part due to Louis XVI overspending. The burden of taxes also made it very hard to conduct trade with France -
National Assembly/Tennis Court Oath
This was a major assembly because it decided that there would now be a representative government. The king did not like this and it led to the storming of the Bastille. -
Loss of American Territories
Eventually people of the French territories wanted the same rights as the French people. When they were not granted their rights they revolted and a civil war started. The french soldiers all died of disease so the territories were free. -

Nobles in Europe didn’t like the changes happening in France so they took action. They tried to restore King Louis. This ended up in war. This led to France becoming a republic. -
Coup d’État
Napoleon was urged to take the lead. His troops forced the legislature out and make Napoleon one if three consuls. He then became dictator. -
Napoleon Crowned
Napoleon decided to crown himself as emperor with the French’s support. This signaled to everyone that he was above the church and better then it. -
Battle of Trafalgar
Only battle Napoleon lost, but most important one. He lost this battle by letting the British split the naval fleet. This led to almost all the French ships being captured. -
Continental System
A blockade set up by Napoleon. It prevented all communication and trade with Great Britain. His goal was to make Europe more self sufficient and to destroy Great Britain’s economy. -

Peninsular War
In an attempt to get Portugal on board, Napoleon sent troops through Spain. Spain didn’t like this so they fought back. They then were scared that Napoleon would condemn them because they are catholic so they fought for 6 years. -
Invasion of Russia
Napoleons biggest mistake. Russia and France were ally’s but Napoleon didn’t like that they wouldn’t stop selling grain to Great Britain so he invaded Russia.
