    The French Revolution was a upheaval in France that lasted from 178o until 1799. The Revolution overthrew the monarchy, established a republic, experienced violent riots and finally culminated in a dictatorship under Napoleon that rapidly brought many of its principles to Western Europe and beyond.
  • Storming the Bastille

    Storming the Bastille
    The people of Paris hear that Louis XVI is going to send troops to Paris. The people people hear this and are terrified. Then they decide to storm the Bastille. it is a symbol of authority and abuse and was a prison for the people that disobeyed the King. it also contained lots of gun powder. This event was significant because it showed that the people of France were not joking about this Revolution.
  • March to Versailles

    March to Versailles
    While people are starving, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette keep living life of ease. Then 6000 people march to Versailles to bring king and Queen to Paris. They move them to Paris as prisoners for the next 3 years. The significants of this was to show them that the people now rule the country.

    The Guillotine was designed for efficiently carrying out executions by beheading. The device consists of a tall, upright frame in which a weighted and angled blade is raised to the top and suspended. The Guillotine was made made because they wanted to make executions fast and pain free for the victim. This killing device was used all over France. It was significant because it was easy and fast for killing people.

    King Louis XVI executed
    King Louis and his family try to escape France dressed as servants. Just before they leave the country they are caught. King Louis is now seen as a traitor to the Revolution. He is executed by Guillotine for treason. The significance of this to France is showing that there is no going back to monarchy.
  • Napoleon Hired

    Napoleon Hired
    Napoleon was already a successful general. So France made him apart of their new governing body, the Consulate. He was named first consul and then consul for life. He wanted order security, and efficiency. He created the Napoleonic code and won many battles as a general of France. But in the end he was defeated by Russia and was exiled to Elba. Napoleon is a significant figure in the revolution because he turned a good country into a great one.
