Meeting of the Estates General
The Estates-General of 1789 was the first meeting of the French Estates-General, a general assembly representing the French estates. The clergy was the First Estate, the nobles were the Second Estate, and the common people were the Third Estate. -
Third Estate declares themselves the National Assembly
The representatives of the Third Estate attempted to make teverything more effective. On June 12, the Communes invited the other Estates to join them and some members of the First Estate did go. Then, the Communes approved the notion by a vote of 490 to 90. -
