    National Constitute Assembly
    A renunciation of aristocratic privileges. This was formed by the third estate and the Estates-General. They represented the common people of the country and they just wanted to make sure the king would give them money to spend on food to eat.

    The King was thought to be surrounded by evil advisors at Versailles so he was forced to move to Paris and reside at Tuileries Palace. Thousands of women went to go settle the hunger and unfair treatment of the common people.

    This is when King Louis tried to tax all the nobles more than they were already paying. The estate hadn't been called to meet since 1614, this was over a hundred years ago for them.     Tennis Court Oath
    The Estates-General was called into a meeting by the king but the king locked the people out so they met on a tennis court and formed their own National Assembly. They pledged to meet until they gave France a constitution

    Storming of the Bastille
    A rumour that the king was planning a military coup against the National Assembly. This was an act to secure gunpowder and weapons because this was the only place to get ahold of them. The significance of this event is now the national day of freedom in France.

    Peasant revolt
    Rumours that the feudal aristocracy was sending hired mercenaries to attack peasants and pillage their land. 90% of the peasants daily income was spent on bread and the people were tired of it, this angered their hatred towards King Louis XVI

    Abolition of Feudalism
    Before the night was over the feudal regime in France had been abolished, all Frenchmen were subject to the same laws and taxes. The constitute Assembly abolished feudalism and the second estate. Peasants were responsible for their own land. They got their land free and no longer had to pay the church.

    Declaration of rights of man
    Resistance to oppression. It meant "men" not for women. Liberty, right to property and resistance to oppression. Includes characteristics from the French revolution.     The Women's March
    Women raided bakeries for bread. Bad harvests caused bread prices to increase and people were breaking windows and robbing other people to get loaves of bread to eat. The women were mad and marched into the palace as they thought the royals were the issue.

    Relations between Church and State
    The civil constitution of the Clergy: Parish Priests and Bishops were elected or named by assemblies. People had zero voice in the appointment of the French Clergy. Transformed France's catholic church into a branch of the state.

    Royal Flee to Varennes
    When the King and Queen tried to flee to Austria at night, a nightguard caught them and sent them back to Paris when they got to the border. The King was recognized as a traitor by his people.

    The De-Chrisianization Program
    The adoption of a new republic calendar that had 10 days a week and months only lasted for 3 weeks. Abolished Sundays and all religious holidays. Months were named after the seasons and the convention symbolically divorced the state from the church

    Execution of King Louis XVI
    20,000 Parisians entered the castle of the King and Queen and when that happened, to avoid further violence the King and Queen were arrested and put on trial.     The legislative assembly had dismembered and replaced itself with a new political body called the National Convention. This consisted of 12 members. The name getting rid of all the national enemies and revolution.

    After the fall of Robespierre, the constitution created the Directory. 5 directors chosen among the legislative assembly. Acted as the executive branch. The new constitution of the 1795 legislative assembly. Chosen by electors. Opposed by both royalists and radicals.
