The American Revolution
Link The American Revolution inspired member of the 3rd Estate in France. The 3rd estate was 97% of the French population. I feel like this is important because it got the idea of revolution in the minds of the French people. -
Economic Failure
Link France's economy started to fall in the 1780's. This mad people begin to worry and pushed the idea of revolution more into their actions. It was falling because of heavy taxation. -
A Weak Leader
Link Louis was an extremely weak leader. A strong leader was needed especially at this time because of the economic failure and the countries heavy debt. This is important because a weak leader gave people a strong reason to revolt. -
Tennis Court Oath
Link A group of revolutionary delegates from the third estate drafted anew constitution. This was called the "Tennis Court Oath" because after they were locked out of their meeting room by King Louis they broke into an indoor tennis court to work. Many people joined with them. This was important because this was when the wheels started turning for change. -
The Rights of Man
Link The Rights of Man was a statement of revolutionary ideas written by revolutionary leaders. It stated all the given rights to every man. It was made to mirror the US Decleration of Independence. This is important because it is the first step towards a new government for France. -
Bread Riot
Link In October of 1789 thousands of Parisian women, enraged over the rising price of bread, stormed King Louis' palace. They armed themselves with knives and axes and took over the castle. They demanded that the King and Queen leave, which they eventually did. This was important because it represented the start of major revolution in France. -
New Constitution
Link In September 1791, a new constitution was finally completed. This was approved reluctantly by King Louis. It took away many powers of the King and added new legislative bodies. This was important because it showed a real change in the government. -
French War
Link In April 1972 France declared war on Prussia and Austria because they demanded King Louis return to his full throne. This was going very badly for France. Forces were advancing on them quickly. This was important because it was amjor setback in the Franch Revolution. -
Napoleon Bonaparte
Link In October of 1975, rebels were attacking the National Convention. Napoleon was given his chance to shine. He was a young officer and a government official ordered him to defend everybody. He soon ran them off and was then appointed to lead the French army. This is important because it was his first step to leading France in the future. -
Napoleon's Lead
Link Napoleon led France with an iron fist. He also sought to take over the rest of Europe. France finally having a strong leader. This was important because Napoleon was the final step in the revolution.
