    The common people of France were fed up with the government and decided to make their own. They called it the national assembly and made a new constitution.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    This was a very big part in the revolution because the common people stormed a military area and took weapons. The king had his army try to stop it but couldn't, showing that the kind didn't have as much power as everyone thought he had. This event spreads the rebellion across France.

    Declaration of the rights of man and citizen
    The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was created to give The people of France freedoms that were explicitly listed for everyone to see. They were influenced by the American Declaration of Independence, and used some of their ideas with freedoms.

    Legislative Assembly

    The National Assembly was renamed once they formed a new constitution. They created a constitutional monarchy and made 2 branches of power. One was the r=Royal family and the other was the Assembly.
  • Jacobins take over

    Jacobins take over
    The Jacobins took over France and made radical changes. They started the reign of terror and killed thousands of people via Guillotine. They took over France after the fall of the Girondins.
  • Formation of the Sans-Culottes

    Formation of the Sans-Culottes
    The Sans-Culottes were the radical group of people in the revolution. Most of the people were lower and working class people with long pants. They formed their own group and tried to make massive changes. They were the ones who declared war on Prussia and Austria. They later changed their name to the Jacobins. One of the most controversial people was Robespierre, who used the Guillotine a lot to kill people.

    National Convention

    The National Convention was renamed because the legislative assembly needed a monarch to have its purpose. It changed its name and became a republic. France also changes their calendar.

    War of the First Coalation

    During the revolution, France was scaring other countries by making them worry that the revolution would spread. Austria and Prussia made the declaration of Phillnitz, saying they would step in to stop the revolution if it kept going. This made France declare war while they were rebelling, and even started a draft.

    The Committee of Public Safety was created to cease the rebellion and was given power of a dictator. They ruled France for over a year and were involved in the reign of terror

    Execution of King Louis XVI
    King Louis XVI was caught and imprisoned when he tried to escape France. He was accused of treason by the people and sentenced to death by Guillotine.

    The Directory
    The last government to be created during the French Revolution, The Directory was created to try to help the people. It promoted middle class interests, but has food shortages and a financial crisis. It was the last government before the rise of Napoleon.
