    The National Assembly

    The first new government established during the revolution, that rid France of any remaining feudalism and established a constitution.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    The women of the third class storm the Bastille in search of weapons, to free debters, and to take down a major symbol of power.
  • The First Constitution is Established

    A constitution is drafted that limits the power of the monarch and insists upon a Legislative Assembly drafting all the laws. This was used for 4 years before being scrapped.

    National Convention

    The second new type of government tried out during the revolution, they abolished the monarchy with complete totality, and also guillotined Louis XVI. They also were able to establish a republic, and form the Committee of Public Safety, headed by Robespierre.

    The Reign of Terror

    Robespierre guillotines 30,000+ people who are identified as 'internal enemies.' Eventually Robespierre himself is overthrown and guillotined out of fear from the National Convention, he is the last of the 30,000 people to be guillotines.
  • King Louis XVI is Executed

    The Monarchy is completely disbanded and KIng Louis XVI is executed by the National Convention.

    Another constitution is formed and adopted by the Directory in 1795.

    A government composed of 5 leaders (Directors), they followed France's newer second constitution. It was extremely flawed and corrupted.
  • Coup d' etat

    The Directory is overthrown and Napoleon takes over and helps form the consulate government.
