The French forces occupied Spain and the King and his son Fernando were sent to Bayonne (France), there the King Carlos IV and Fernando renounced their rigths to the Spanish Throne in favour of Napoleon. Then Napoleon made his own brother Joseph Bonaparte the new King of Spain in 1808. -
