The 3 Estates Meeting/Tennis Court Oath
The tree estates meeting was a meeting from the three areas that divided in France. In France three estates are classes that people are put into. The other states were able to overrule the third estate. When the third party was banned from entering the meeting hall the third party moved to the tennis court and vowed to not leave the court until the laws were changed. I though this was important because it sent the people over the edge and pushed them to make a change in the government. -
Demise of Bastille
Bastille was a fortress in France where political prisoners were held. The fall of Bastille the people of France marched to the fortress and took out their frustrations against the army. The people who marched later took over Bastille ad freed its prisoners. The day is a celebratory time for the Francs. This was important because this was one of the biggest and first protests against the French Government to showing them what the people wanted and was used as a Cathartic moment for many Francs. -
March at Versailles
The March at Versailles was a march that took place at Versailles in October. The protesters in France Marched their way to Versailles from Paris and forced their way into the palace and found The Kings wife Marie Antoinette. They despised the royals for the luxurious lifestyle and demanded for for bread and for the King to live with them in Paris with the common people. This event made the King and Queen see how the common people lived and forced them out of a life of luxury. -
Varennes
The National Assembly had come up with a constitution that would put a limit on King Louis and Marie Antoinette powers. As expected they were enraged and decided to flee France to Austria.The plan was simple for them to sneak out and find there way to Austria. The king and his family were fine until they were noticed in the town of Varennes and were forced to return to Paris. This part was important because of the later effects it had. The King was caught and was seen as vulnerable and a coward. -
The Constitution takes effect
The Constitution took effect and and made France a Constitutional Monarchy. The National Assembly was dispersed and the new political form The Legislative Assembly. The Assembly consisted of moderate nobles to the common people. This part showed the importance of the government actually making a change and help the people as well as listen to the peoples side of things. -
Attacking Tuileries
In this time France was in a hard place. in France trouble was arising. People were becoming radicalized, they were economic stand still and The Government was at a split of opinions. A crowd of thousands of people attacked The Tuileries Palace. The King and Queen escaped and put themselves under the protection of The Legislative Army. In this event the people had pushed through and caused the King and Queen to turn themselves in and being arrested. -
The September Massacre
The September Massacre was a huge event that took place for months. Over the months their was massive bloodshed. The blood that was shed was suspected to be over hundreds of royals men and women in France. Many had fled over fear for their life. The September massacre was important because it showed the trouble and fury that the people had against the royals. It also showed the pandemonium that was created in France in the revolution. -
The National Convention
The Legislative Assembly was disbanded and a new party was formed called The National Convention. This convention made France a republic. This convention was a crucial part into changing the government more. -
Trial of The Royals
With the new form of government the King and Queen were put on trial. Louis was unanimously found guilty for treason for trying to flee the country. Marie Antoinette was also found guilty for many crimes. Louis and Marie were given the death penalty and driven through the streets of Paris and guillotined. This was important because they made the people of France see the King and Queen seen as criminals being prosecuted for their crimes and brought to justice. -
Anarchy
The Government was again overthrown and The National Convention was overthrown under the power of one person Maximilien Robespierre who named himself as the leader. He started what is known as The Reign of Terror. He was ruthless and was rumored to have had around 16,000 people guillotined. The people killed had ranged from radicals to moderates. He was eventually guillotined. This event was important because it showed the trouble that the country was put into after the revolution.
