The Bastille was a state prison on the east side of Paris, it was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. The third estate tore it apart brick by brick. The people tore it down because it reminded them of the monarchy. -
Rights to Man
Declaration of the Rights of Man was created and passed by France's National Assembly. It offerd freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and separation of powers. -
Government Confiscates Church Property
Government confiscated the church's property, because no property= no power -
Women's March to Versailles
Thousands of working women that were armed with pitchforks, pikes and muskets, marched in the rain from Paris to Versailles. -

The Legislative Assembly of France declares war on Austria, because they felt the need to spread the ideas of the Revolution to all of Europe. -

National Convention creates the committee of public safety, it controlled food, economy, and military situations. -
Off with the Kings Head!
Louis XVI is executed, because the people felt the only way to move on was with the death of king. The death of a king meant that someone else would inheret the throne and try and fix all of his mistakes. -

It was a period of violence that occurred after the onset of the French Revolution,because of the conflict between two rival political parties. The Jacobins and Girondins; Maximilien was the one who enforced the reign of terror. -

DIRECTORY
The first formally constituted French Republic, known as the Directory. It only lasted only four years. Directory was a body of five Directors that held executive power in France following the Convention. -
Napoleon
He put himself out there as more of a conservative and centralized republican government while not declaring himself head of state. It was a new system of government for the Republic. Napoleon was able to transform France into a dictatorship. -
Signing of Civil Code
The code forbade privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, and specified that government jobs go to the most qualified. The Code, was a major step in establishing the rule of law. Napoleon set out to reform the French legal system, because he thought it was dumb how the old kings ran things so he wanted to re-do everyhting. Kind of like one of those HGTV shows where they restore or like flip the house, well he flipped the goverment. -
Crowning!
Napoleon put on the crown himself, shows that he is higher in rank and authority than the Pope. He became KIng, and sought out to be the one with the most power, even above the chruch. -
Napoleon's Exile to Elba
Following the Treaty of Fontainebleau, Napoleon was "exiled to Elba" by the European powers, after his forced abdication. -
Congress of Vienna
The congress met to reconstruct the map of Europe and develop a balance of power that would prevent another massive take-over by one country. Objective resulted in the redrawing of the continent's political map, and undo changes made by Napoleon in Europe. -
