    American Revolution
    France enters the American revolution on the side of the United States. The war futhers France's debt plunging the country into Bankruptcy.
  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Meeting of the Estates General
    Faced with serious finical problems King Louis XVI calls a meeting of the Estates General. When the 3rd Estate demands more votes they were locked out of the meeting. Enraged they decided to do something about it.

    The enraged 3rd estate after being locked out of the Estates General break into a tennis court and swear to constitution. The downfall of the Ancient Regime has started.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    Rumors in Paris started to spread that King Louis XVI new soilders were going to wipe out the National Assembly. People in Paris began to arm themselves but they sill needed gunpowder. So a mob of people stormed the Bastille stealing all of the gunpowder and freeing the prisoners. The mob then proceeded to tear the Bastille down.

    The new National Assembly Government created the Declaration of the rights of man. It declared all men have the right to Liberty and Equality. Louis XVI was then forced to sign it stripping away much of his power.
  • March on Versailles

    March on Versailles
    In Paris a large mob of fishermen's wives were angry over the cost of bread. They then lead a large mob to the palace of Versailles. They then waited outside for the king becoming increasingly hostile until they stormed the palace killing royal gurads and ripping up the Queens bed. King Louis horrifed at what happend agreed to move to Paris and live in the Tuileries Palace. Becoming prisoners to their own country.

    The Royal Family of France after being inpriosned in the Tuileries palace in Paris. Plotted to escape Paris in the dark of night. They made it to Varennes before being caught and returned to Paris.

    After seeing the Revoultion happening in France many Monarchs feared similar Revoultions. So almost all of Europe tried to invade France. Which lead to more death and destruction.
  • Robespierre is in charge

    Robespierre is in charge
    With the King in prison at Tuileries. And the National Assembly gone the people created a new Government called the National Convention. With Robespirre in complete control of it.
  • Death to the King

    Death to the King
    King Louis after being arrested was put on trial and convicted of treason he was then sentenaced to death. He was then killed by the Guillotine officaly ending the Monarcy in France. Marie Antoinette was also later killed.

    The Monarcy is gone and Robespierre is in charge. To keep order in France he creates the Comitte of Public Saftey. Where he and the Comitte oversaw the deaths of thousands of innocent people who were deemed a threat to the Republic.

    After giving a speech to the National Convention claming to know the names of traitors. Robespierre was arrested and sentanced to death. The day before his execution he tried to shoot himself in the head. He surived and was executed a day later. After his death the reign of terror ended.

    With the death of Robespierre the National Convention was disbanded. It was Replaced with a five member Directory. The Directory was very corrupt and only let landowners vote.

    The Napolenic Civil code were new laws passed to replace the countrys old feudal laws. Its one of the few documents to affect the whole world.

    Emperor Napolen wanting to be seen as the new Monarch of France. Decided to have a Coronation but wanted it different from the anicent regime.

    After the whole of Europe unites against him Napolen is forced to abdicate. He is exiled to Elba island in Italy

    The Congress of Vienna was meeting of ambassadors to disscuss the future of Europe their goal was too create long term peace in Europe.

    After returning from Elba Napoleon regains the throne. He then leads a bloody war to conquer Europe where he is defeated at Waterloo.
