Summoning of the estate generals
For the first time since 1614 Louis xvi summoned the Estate-General for financial advice. The estate general is a French congress that originated in the medieval period and consisted of three estates. The First Estate was the clergy, the Second Estate the nobility, and the Third Estate effectively the rest of French society. Each estate got a vote. The first and second estate could use a bloc to stop the third estate from having its way. -
