Tennis Court Oath
Members of the Third Estate meet to produce a constitution of France. After being locked out of the meeting hall, they moved to a nearby tennis court. -
Storming of the Bastille
Demonstrators storm the medieval prison in order to gain weapons and ammunition. Only 7 prisoners were there at the time but this signified a spark to the Revolution. -
Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen
Defined individual rights of Frenchmen. Limited the king's power and granted citizenship to all men that paid taxes. -
Creation of the National Assembly
Created in order to create a constitution for France after the overthrowing of the monarchy. Formally abolished the monarchy and established a republic. Voted to kill Louis XIV by one vote. -
Execution of Louis XVI
Killed by means of the guillotine in Revolution Square. National Assembly voted for death by a single vote. French people were ordered to stay inside during the execution.
