Meeting of the Estates General
King Louis XVI called the first meeting in 175 years for the three estates to approve new taxes on the Third Estate. Each estate had a single vote, leaving the Third Estate silenced by the First and Second Estate voting agaisnt them. -
Creation of the National Assembly
The Creation of the National Assembly was formed by the Third Estate to create a new court system otherwise known as parlament. This movement got rid of the Old Order. -
Storming of the Bastille
Angered citizens of Paris formed a mob outside of the prison Bastille, the Bastille imprisoned those who spoke against the government. The mob attempted to nogotiate with the Commander about the citizens requesting weapons, but the Commander denied that request. So the mob porseeded to kill the Commander as a sign of the peoples opression. -
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen adopted ideas from Enlightment thinkers such as John Locke, English Bill of Rights and the US Declaration of Independence. This Declaration made equality in France for men. This did not apply to women. -
Creation of the National Convention
Elected to provide a new constitution for France, abolishing the Monarchy and establishing a Republican government. -
Execution of the King
In hopes of keeping the moarchy eliminated and fend off from revolution enemies the National Convention placed King Louis XVI on trial and later marked him to be executed in the guillotine. Europe was horrified by these actions. -
Reign of Terror
In hopes to avoid a possible counter Revolution the Reign of Terror was a period of time involving large amounts of death by the guillotine. Also there were many accusaitions and trials when revolutionary leaders feared another Revolution. People were begging to fear France. -
Coup d'etat
This overthrew the system of government under directery in France. Also substituted the consulate, making way for Napoleon. This was the end of the French Revolution.
