Louis XVI called a meeting with the Estates-General to discuss a new tax plan. -
Tennis Court Oath
The member of the Third Estate show up to the estates general one day and find themselves locked out of thier chambers. They then take their meeting to a nearby, indoor tennis court. They took an oath that kept them from leaving the tennis court until a new constitution was written. -
Storming of the Bastile
A huge mob of people marchedto the Bastile. the were in search of gunpowder and prisoners that had been taken by the unpopular Louis XVI. The mob marched through the streets cutting off the heads of many of thier captives. -
Declaration of the Rights of Man
The National Assembly, Third Estate, created a document known as the Declaration of the Rights of Man. It stated the principles of the revolution. The document justified destroying a government based on absolutism. -
March on Versailles
Thousand of women marched from Paris to the royal palace in Versailles due to rising prices of bread. The mob of 20,000 marched through the palace killing gaurds on thier way. They eventually forced the royals to come back to Paris with them. The royals were now considered prisoners of Paris. -
Royal Escape
The royal family tries to escape dressed as servants. they are caught and forced back to Paris. -
War is Declared
France begins to believe that Prussia and Austria are planning to invade Paris. After reciving this information, France takes action. War is declared on Austria -
Louis XVI Sentenced
After being accuse of 33 counts of counter revolutionary acts, Louis XVI is sentenced to death. He is beheaded by the guillotine six days later. -
Reign of Terror
A new regime lead by Jacobins fears counter revolutionary plots. this lead him to execute anyone suspected of opposing the revolution. this continued until July 28, 1794. -
The End
The people become weary of the Reign of Terror. Robespierre is beheaded and the most violent part of the revolution draws to an end.
