  • French and Indian war

  • Proclamation of 1763

    After the French and Indian war the British issued this. King George III told the colonists that they could not settle or buy land west of the Appalachian Mountains. If they were already west of the mountains, they had to return to the east. Colonists began protesting this.
  • Sugar Act

    Requires colonists to pay a tax on all sugar and molasses. The tax was six pence per gallon.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A protest directed by the colonists. The colonist dressed up as indians and went to the boat that held all the tea. They dumped 342 containers of tea into the harbor. They did this as a protest for the Tea Act.

    FIrst Continental Congress

    A meeting that delegates 12 of the thirteen colonies.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The british soldiers didn't want the colonists to have weapons, so they fought them in towns. There was no shots until an unknown person fired "The shot heard around the world."
  • Second Continental Congress

    Succeeded the First Continental Congress. Moved closer to independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declared America as an independent country. The declaration summarized/showed the colonists complaints, and told why they need to break away from Britain.

    Siege of Yorktown

    At this point the British were tired of fighting and so were the colonists. So the British decided that it wasn't worth it, so they surrendered.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Ended the American Revolution. Signed by the USA representatives and King George III in Paris.
