    French and Indian War
    The war was about nine years long and ended with Britain receiving a large amount of land. The colonist were upset by the fact that they had to pay taxes to help Britain with the large sum of debt they had from the war.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was a way for Britain to stop the smuggling of things like sugar and molasses in order for them to gain more revenue. The colonists were unhappy with this act and protested against it.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was another way for the English to get money out of the colonists by making a law that each paper sent out must have a stamp. The colonists were outraged and decided to make a law stating that they should disregard any further laws made by the British.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act stated that the American colonists must obey the British laws given to them no matter what. Of course this made the colonists anything but happy and felt their independence was being attacked.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act made it so everything imported to the colonies had taxes on them including glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. Colonists boycotted all things from Britain.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea act gave the Tea companies the right to ship directly from Britain to the colonies without stop. The colonists were furious because they felt that their rights to know what they were being taxed on was being violated.
  • Revolutionary War

    Revolutionary War
    The Revolutionary War was fought to ensure the colonies independence from Britain. After winning the war the Americans felt great because they had officially made themselves independent from British rules, laws, and Britain in general.
