  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
The British Parliament passed the Sugar Act. It took the taxes on sugar and molasses and decreased them. Originally it was six cents but because of the Sugar Act it decreased to three cents; the British strongly enforced

    Colonist reaction:
The colonists were not mad at the sugar tax. They were angry that they had no say in the new tax. For years the colonists created their taxes so when the British forced them to pay taxes without any say it made them furious.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act made sure there was a stamp on every piece of paper. The stamp was another form of tax by the British to make the colonist pay more money.
    Colonists Reaction:
All of the colonists were upset by this act as well so they all worked together to protest the new act. The “elites” the people that used the most paper were the ones who lead to protest to victory and the British got rid of the act.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act came the same day the Stamp Act got dismissed. It was the British Parliament stating that they could make laws and change taxes on the American colonist if they wanted to. Colonists Reaction:
The colonists did not have much of a reaction to the Declaratory Act because they were celebrating. All the colonists were happy that their boycott got the Stamp Act repealed so they did not do anything about the new act because it was not that big of a threat to them.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
The Townshend Act was created by Charles Townshend because the British still needed money. This act put taxes on all imported goods that came to the colonies.
    Colonist reaction:
The colonists boycotted this act as well and the women helped. During this boycott, they stopped buying imported goods so the British could not force them to pay taxes. They created what they needed. Sometimes the protest got too violent for example the Boston Massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The boycotts and protests worked and the taxes and acts were gone but the tea still had a tax. This was because of the Tea Act, forcing there to be taxed on tea imported from the British
    Colonist reaction:
The colonists boarded the British boats and looked like Indians so they could dump the tea into the ocean, also known as the Boston Tea Party. Even though tea had a cheaper tax the colonist was still angry because they were forced to pay taxes on something the entire world enjoyed.
