The king called a meeting for advice on improving the French economy. This happened when word of uprising was spreading. This was the first Estates General since 1614. -
Storming of the Bastille
The third estate took hold of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison that also held weapons. This happened when the third estate began to bubble over and this gave them a toehold on the government. -
Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen
This was a document that described the rights that all men should have. During this time many were angered about there treatment and lack of rights. This document gave a guideline to how men should be treated. -
Gens de Colour demand equal rights from France
As the Rights of Man and Citizen was released the blacks and mulatos demand these rights. This happened after the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen was published. This raised awareness for mestreatment of the Gens de Colour. -
March on Versailles
A mob of angry women armed with not much more than tools attacked Versailles. At this time most of the third estate has turned against the government in France. This showed Europe that the wealthy and royalty, like the first and second estate, is not untouchable. -
Beheading of King Louis XVI
As King Louis could not repair the French economy he was executed by guillotine. This happened when the wealthy continued to spend France's taxes extravagantly. The king was a symbol of power and this left France without a monarch. -
Reign of Terror
The radicals finally overthrow the government and displace most of the first and second class. This happened when the radicals formed offensives against the government. This ended French absolute monarchy. -
French forces admit defeat to the slave armies and evacuate forces.
After the French try to defeat the slaves they lose in the battle of Vertieres. This was over one hundred years after the colony was formed. Now nobody controlled Saint Domingue. -
The colony of Saint Domingue is abolished
Saint Domingue is now independent. As the French were conquering much of Europe, the could not conquer this slave colony. -
The French National Assembly grants blacks full rights
The French took the loss and gave rights to the free blacks. The French lost to slave armies. The blacks of Saint Domingue were free. -
Napoleon is Emporer
Napoleons success leads him to be emporer. The people loved Napoleon and made him their leader. Napoleon led France to conquer many lands.
