Frederick Douglas:

  • Born a slave

    Frederick Douglass was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland (Digital History).
    This gave him a deep understanding of oppression and created a foundation of empath which allowed him to understand the struggles of others. This led him to be a champion for gender equality.
  • Attends first woman's rights convention

    Douglas attends his first womens rights convention at Seneca Falls, New York (Digital History). This convention made Douglas aware of the struggles of women, and became the starting point for his work in gender equality.
  • Founds American Equal Rights Association

    Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony along with Frederick Douglas Founded the American Equal Rights Association inorder to fight for the oppressed and demand universal suffrage (National Women's History Museum, Frederick Douglass).
  • Attends Last Women's Suffrage Convention

    Douglas attended the Women's Rights meeting on February 20th at Cedar Hill, and passed away later that day (Digital History). Douglas worked tirelessly his entire life to fight for the oppressed.
