Chapter 3: American Flyer
Max frees Kevin's ornithopter from the tree, and they develop a friendship as they play with the mechanical bird. -
Chapter 5: Spitting Image
Max is invited to dinner at Kevin's house. He meets Gwen under more friendly terms, learning that she was good friends with his mother. -
Chapter 7: Walking High Above the World
Freak and Max are confronted by Tony D. and his gang. They made a narrow escape to the pond, where the gang couldn't reach them. A cop car scared the punks away and pulled Freak the Mighty free. -
Chapter 9: Life is Dangerous
Kevin takes Max to the Medical Research facility, where Kevin is going to be made the first human robot. He goes there often for tests and appointments. -
Chapter 11: The Damsel in Distress
Max and Kevin return Loretta Lee's purse, who they realize is related to Iggy Lee. After being forced inside, the Lees figure out that Max was Kenny "Killer" Kane's son. -
Chapter 15: What Came Down the Chimmney
Max, Grim, and Gram have Christmas with Gwen and Kevin. Kevin gave Max an intricate, pyramid-shaped box containing his very own dictionary. Max was later woken up by his father, who came back for him. -
Chapter 20: Freak the Mighty Strikes Again
Max is in an old abandoned house, forced to watch Killer Kane choke Loretta Lee. He eventually stops when Max says that he remembered him choking his mom to death. Kevin comes in with a squirt gun filled with a spicy solution that hurts Killer Kane. -
Chapter 23: The Empty Book
Kevin is in the Medical Research Center, being treated for his seizure. He gives Max an empty book to write down all of their adventures in. -
Chapter 25: What Loretta Said
Max has learned to cope with Kevin's death. Many people told him how sorry they were for his loss. He found Kevin through the adventures they shared, which he wrote down in a book. -
