Death of Clovis/ Division of Merovingian Empire
At Clovis' death,tv he kingdom was divided among his 4 sons. The division was based off of the administrative division of Romans showing how much they influenced Clovis. Also this began the Merovignian tradition of dividing the kingdom. -

Pepin the Short- begins Carolignian Dynasty
The first Carolignian King rises to power as King replacing the Merovignian dynasty. He was the son of Charles Martel and father of Charlemagne. Also known as Pepin the Younger. -
Charlemagne is named emperor by Pope Leo III
The greatest Carolignian emperor, son of Pippin the Short, is crowned. This began his reign where he strengthened the empire and initiated religious and cultural change. -
Death of Louis V/ End of Carolingian Dynasty
Following E death of King Louis V, who was the last Carolignian King, the empire ended. The decline began after the death of Charles when dukes and other nobles gained land and power as they attempted to protect the Viking but resulted in leaving the Carolingians with very little land. -
Clovis I
The most important King and founder of the Merovian dynasty came to power over the Franks in around 481 succeding his father. He led the Franks in empire expansion and was key in the expansion/conversion of Catholicism. -
Diocletian Divides Roman Empire
To make the land easier to control, Diocletian divided the Roman Empire into the Western R.E. and the Easter R.E. The Franks rose in the Western half.
