    University of Paris Founded
    The University of Paris was founded in 1200. It was a Cathedral school that grew out of the schools of Notre Dame. The university was a coporate company that had both professors and students. It was originally divided into the four facilities of: theology, law, medicine, and the arts.

    French Soldiers Discover the Rosetta Stone
    In July 1799 Napoleon's soilders blew up anciet walls in the town of Rosetta to expand their fort. While clearing the rubble a soilder noticed the polished fragment of stone. After rcovering it they realized the carvings and handed it over to the Institute.

    Construction for the Arc de Triomphe started on August 15, 1806 under the rule of Napoleon. The arc honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars. It stands 164 feet tall and has the names of the generals and the wars carved on the inside.

    Construction on the Eiffel Tower began on January 28, 1887 and was completed two years later. The tower rises to 1063 feet. It was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel.

    The Dreyfus affair started in 1894 and lasted until 1906. It was a political crisis trying to prove the innocense or guilt of Alfred Dreyus, an army captain convicted for selling military secrets to the Germans. He was convicted and given the highest legal penalty which included of perpetual imprisonment, loss of rank, and degration.
