    This landmark case helped to open the door for the fight of Equality in education. Segregation was rulled to be not constituation which led to help with other cases of segreagation in schools, including Special Education. This case is a huge part of Special education as well as education in general.

    Department of Public Welfare V. Haas
    This fight for equality helped to change the laws of Illinois to require free public education for all students even the ones that were deemed "unfit" for "general" education. This early case is one of the begining cases to fight for equality. And of course an attempt to change the laws for the betterment of Special education.

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    The passing of this act helped to initiate the role of the federal government in the lives of students whose basic needs were not addressed. Including grant programs that encouraged schools and states to improve conditions for students with disabilities. This groundbreaking act helped to change outlooks and federal and national outlook of Special Education.

    Education of the Handicapped Act
    This revised ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) helped to improve state run programs that helped disabled students. the change from the previous act allowed for improvement on the federal side of the programs, it does not have an amount of increased resposibility though it helped to push Special Education in the right direction.

    Education for All Handicapped Children act
    This act helped to improve the education process but also paved the way to a much more influencial act called Individual with Disabilities Act. This helped in the improvment of disabled students educational prospects, as well as helping "disabled students" be a part of the "general class."

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
    This legislation helped to give all students with disabilities appropriate education and related services. This helped to extend special education to more that the bare education aspect. This imcluded school programs that are "people first" which greatly improved the environment for these students.

    No Child Left Behind
    This controversial act has been through many revisions and has improved some certain parts of the Special Education process. This act increased Accountability of the schools and allowed for greater flexibility with schools, students and teachers.
