    Civil Rights Act of 1866
    The Civil Rights Act of 1866 declared that all citizens born in the US could not be discriminated against based on color, race, or whether they were a slave. This act would prove to aid future litigations involving those discriminated upon in the education system.
  • Brown V. The Board of Education

    Brown V. The Board of Education
    This case fought for the desegregation of all schools as separate had proved to not be equal. This case would later be used to argue the separation of students with disabilities from general education.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    The Elementary and Secondary Education Act was signed in 1965 by president Lyndon Johnson to provide funding for primary education. This funding expanded access for public education for children with disabilities.
  • Mills V. The Board of Education

    Mills V. The Board of Education
    In this case against the District of Columbia, it was declared that students with disabilities be given public education, regardless of cost. This case was helpful in eliminating the fiscal limitations faced by students with disabilities.
  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens V. Pennsylvania Board of Education

    Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens V. Pennsylvania Board of Education
    This case allowed children with mental disabilities would be provided with free and appropriate education. The court ruled that each and every student should be provided with equal opportunity.
  • Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act

    Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act
    Section 504 of the Rehabilitiation Act is a part signed into law by President Richard Nixon. This act made sure that there was no discrimination in schools or the workplace. This act mandated individual plans for people with special needs.
  • Public Law 94-142

    Public Law 94-142
    Otherwise known as, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act, ensured the access and appropriate management of public education for students with disabilities. This act played a large role in developing and supporting the provision that all students with disailities should be placed in the least restrictive environment as possible that allows opportunity to interact with students in the general education.

    Americans with Disabilities Act
    The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibitied discrimination from your employer, state and local government facilities, public accomidation, transportation, and telecomunication. This law includes public schooling, so individuals in schools would be prohibitied from discrimination as well.
