first establishment
Guadalajara at first was located in Mesa del Cerro (at the edge of the province Nochistlán Teúl), now known as San Juan. It was founded on January 5, 1532, by Juan Cristobal de Oñate. The town of Guadalajara was founded by 42 neighbors Guadalajara name it took in memory of Guadalajara, Spain, birthplace of Nuño de Guzmán. This establishment did't last long in this place, because they wanted more water and comunication with the rest of the Nueva España

Second establishment
After a discussion with the neighbors and the refusal of Cristobal de Oñate to established in Tlacotán, they decided to found the town in Tonala where they remained for two years. -

Third establishment
The foundation in Tlacotlán occurred in 1535. Unfortunately, in the latter colonization, the Spanish had a bad life because of the lack of food in the area and the total lack of economic activities. -

Foundation of Guadalajara
The city was founded on the site where it is now located, settling 63 Spaniards, being 6 Extremadura, 16 Spaniards, 11 Basques, Andalusians 13, 9 Highlanders and 8 Portuguese.
