  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    This was a proxy of the cold war because the U.S. and the Soviet Union could not get into a direct conflict with one another. The Soviet Union saw the invasion of North Korea in South Korea as a perfect opportunity to spread communism. The U.S. sought to contain this and entered the war backing South Korea.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    A very influential case which desegregated the school system. Previously blacks and whites were not allowed to go to school.
  • The Vietnam War

    This entered the U.S. into the cold war. This sparked more and more controversy as American Casualties grew more as the war began to prolong for a very long time. This proved to be Johnson's greatest mistake and the U.S. lost the war at the end of it all due to the advantage the Vietnamese had fighting on their home.

    After the arrest of Rosa Parks, many African Americans began to protest by not using the bus system. The city was forced to change its seating rules because the loss of revenue was too large.

    Brown v. Board of education desegregated the school system. In Alabama, the governor blatantly disobeyed this ruling and didn't let a group of 9 African Americans who were enrolled enter the school.

    Johnson needed a reason to enter the Cold war in order to contain the spread of communism. It was reported that a Vietnam ship had attacked an American cruiser which gave Johnson a reason to enter the war. This report turned out to be a false claim.

    Due to the bombing of Cambodia occurring in the Vietnam war, many college students began violently protesting and rioting against the war. A protest began at Kent state and Police were forced to use lethal force on the protesting students. The students were unarmed and 4 students were killed in the shooting.
